For those of you who haven't heard by now, on Wednesday, April 16, Cameron took a header jumping off the family room sofa into a pile of pillows. Unfortunately, his aim wasn't so good and he met our marble-topped coffee table with his forehead. By the grace of God, he only needed 4 stitches. My mind (the Devil?) is still thinking of ways this could have been much worse.
Disclaimer: if you are squeamish, skip this paragraph. Cameron split his forehead only about an inch or two horizontally over his right eyebrow, but it went all the way to the skull. It was rather remarkable when I first saw the wound.
You uneasy stomach types back? Good.
Amazingly, Cameron only cried for a minute or two and didn't really bleed all that much. The only discomfort he let on to was when Rachel tried holding a towel against his head to mitigate any bleeding. He's such a tough little man.
Rachel and Cameron rode in the Ross Township ambulance to the ER at Children's Hospital in Cincinnati and I met them there. We were led to the operating room much more quickly than I expected. Everyone at Children's was fantastic, including the doctor who sewed up little Cam's forehead.
When we were in the operating room waiting for the doctor, the nurse asked Cameron what happened to his forehead and he said, "I have a crack-blood." Rachel and I got a much-needed chuckle out of that one.
Fast-forward to this past Wednesday, after the stitches have already been removed, when Ruth and Cameron were outside playing in a little baby pool. Ruth was splashing water up with her hands when she accidentally backhanded Cameron right on his cut! It started to bleed, so Rachel again took Cameron to the ER, this time to Children's Urgent Care in Fairfield. Luckily, it didn't require anything more than the application of some medial glue.
The poor guy has had a rough couple of weeks. And God Bless Rachel for being strong through all of it. She's amazing.
